What do you get when you mix Christmas and a wedding? You get the most decorated inn lobby known to humankind.

That was the sight greeting my two Christmas-loving girls as we walked downstairs to join the wedding guests already milling about the lobby. Pine boughs, pinecones, tiny fairy lights, and small, rustic hurricane lamps decorated every available surface.

The wooden dining-room chairs had been set up in rows facing the altar. White, tulle ribbons with sprigs of evergreen and white-tipped pinecones hung at the end of each row. The huge Christmas tree—also abundant with rustic-themed decorations—stood to one side of the altar. In the background, a fire burned in the large hearth, the low flames adding a soft glow to the scene without barbecuing the bride and the groom.

Josh and Holly were talking to Kelsey, both women holding their infant sons in their arms. Lily was with them, but as soon as she saw Everly, she raced over. The pair quickly became two giggling girls who were happy to entertain the guests until the wedding commenced.

Kelsey and Holly hugged Hannah as best as they could. Between the babies in their arms and Hannah’s growing bump, it was amazing they could hug at all.

Immediately, the threesome began talking about all things baby- and pregnancy-related. This gave Josh and me a chance to escape. Travis and Emma weren’t down yet, and Trent was Liam’s best man, so he was currently busy.

Josh’s mouth curled up to one side. “That was an ingenious plan.”

“What plan?” I honestly had no idea what he was talking about.

“Making it look like you, Hannah, and Everly are a family, so any mothers here hoping to marry their daughters off will immediately cross you off their list. And nice touch with the matching color.” He flicked his finger against my tie, referring to the blue that matched Hannah’s and Everly’s dresses.

“First, the matching color was an accident. I only saw their dresses shortly before we came downstairs. They’ve been secretive about them.”

“What’s the second thing?”

“I don’t think I have to worry about any mothers hoping to marry off their daughters to the next eligible bachelor who shows up at the wedding. It’s not like Liam and Ava invited a lot of guests.”

“Which means there aren’t any opportunities for you to get lucky tonight. But that doesn’t matter, does it? Because there’s only one woman you’re interested in.”

“Is that a question or a statement?”

“So what’s really going on between you two?” Josh gave a chin-nod in Hannah’s direction. She didn’t see it because her back was to us.

“Honestly? Nothing.”

“But you want there to be. Something has changed, and now the idea of being with a woman who isn’t Hannah doesn’t sound too appealing. Am I right?”

“Sounds like someone has been spending too much time reading Emma’s Dr. Lovejoy sex column.” All right, it wasn’t so much a sex column as a relationship column, and no, I hadn’t read it. Much.

“You’re deflecting.”

“And you work in the marketing department for the Rock. What’s with all the psychological mumbo jumbo?”

“A large part of marketing involves psychology.
